Do Humans Actually Need Dairy in Their Life?

Dairy foods are important in human diet. Two children look at milk in glasses.

Milk has been a complete source of nutrients for humans for millennia. In fact, there is no other food product that equates to the nutrient package milk provides. The nine-essential nutrients found in milk are iron, calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, B2 and B12, iodine, potassium and phosphorous.

Calcium in particular is a valuable nutrient that is found in milk. This mineral is responsible for strength of bones and teeth, and it is an essential component that contributes to a healthy diet. In fact, about 73 percent of calcium provided by food supply can be found in milk and dairy foods.

The only way to equal all of the nutrients food in milk would be through the intake multiple daily supplements. It seems simpler to pour a glass of milk, doesn’t it?

But, what about the other dairy foods, like cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese? Not only do these products mimic the nutrients found in milk, but they have each have their own distinct nutritional benefit.

  1. Yogurt is rich in probiotics, a microorganism that promote a healthy digestive and immune system.
  2. Cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein and is often consumed by athletes.

If you are searching for something that will satisfy your sweet tooth, have a scoop of ice cream… or two. Don’t feel guilty. Remember, you’re reaping all of those dairy nutritional benefits!
