The Great Georgia Give continued its tour last week as it arrived in Macon, Ga. Georgia dairy farmers are working alongside partners to donate 24,000 half-gallons of milk to hospitals, first responders, police and fire stations, and other areas in need across Georgia.

The Great Georgia Give was initiated to help dairy farmers give back to their communities as they navigate supply chain interruptions. Giving locally sourced milk to those in Georgia who need it most means not only supporting our local dairy farmers, but also supporting our first responders and communities in need.

“This is the second stop for the Great Georgia Give and we couldn’t be more proud of the response we’ve received,” said Paul Johnson, Georgia dairy farmer and board chairman of Georgia Agriculture Commodity Commission for Milk. “The Great Georgia Give was designed to help our  local Georgia dairy farmers and our frontline workers, but it’s really done a lot for the communities and dairy farmers are grateful for the opportunity to serve Georgians.”

The Great Georgia Give kicked off in Atlanta and has two more stops scheduled along the way as the initiative visits Augusta on May 8 and Savannah on May 15. This four-week philanthropic community effort is led by Milk on My Mind in partnership with Dairy Farmers of America, Kroger, Georgia Department of Agriculture and Centennial Farms Dairy.

“Knowing that so many people are struggling right now due to the Coronavirus, it’s been hard to watch milk go to waste,” said Adam Graft, a DFA member and local dairy farmer from Americus, Ga. “I’m proud that we could all come together and figure out a way to get this done. As farmers, we work hard day in and day out to help make food for our local communities, so being able to make this donation to first responders and healthcare workers on the frontlines here in Georgia feels really good.”

The Great Georgia Give was planned and coordinated for Milk on My Mind, a dairy awareness program initiated and funded by Georgia Dairy Farmers through the Department of Agriculture’s Commodity Commission for Milk.
